Spacious as
light can be

Lighting is a creative attitude for us, and we are brave enough to want to be incomparable. Luminaires from next create emotional and dramaturgical constructions of space through their unusual design language and make the classic distinction between private and public space superfluous: Our luminaires convince functionally with state-of-the-art technology and at the same time appeal to the creative freedom of the observer: sometimes witty, sometimes poetic and always open to associations ...

Thomas Schulte founded next in 2000 and since mid-2019 the next brand has been part of less'n'more GmbH, which also specialises in the design, development and production of unusual luminaires. When good light in an unusual form is required, then luminaires from next are the answer: we have already been able to design numerous large-scale objects such as shopping malls, hospitals and swimming pools with our unusual design language. We also illuminate gastronomy and countless homes worldwide in an authentic, spectacular and extraordinary way, because next means seeing light in a completely different way.

Constantin Wortmann studied design in Munich and Hamburg. After an internship and freelance work as a designer for Ingo Maurer, he founded the design studio Büro für Form together with Benjamin Hopf in 1998. The design studio focuses on interior, industrial, furniture and lighting design and is extremely successful nationally and internationally.

When Wortmann and Hopf presented their Dicke Trude at a trade fair in 1999, Thomas Schulte from next took notice of them. He recognises the potential of the two and is brave enough to put his trust in young and not yet established designers. While Hopf has gone his own way since 2007, Wortmann has left an unmistakable mark on the world of next.

People sometimes need a commodity to buy art, he says, and you can see this in his lights, which play with the viewer's visual habits and leave them to interpret.

He mediates between order and chaos with ease and provides the organic with a lifeline. In this way, for example, he makes us confidently acquainted with the cosmic. At the same time, our eye should see that everything is light and our mind should know that the highest functionality and precision are behind it. To square this circle with ease, we need poetry and humour. We love the delight in play that Wortmann always brings to new forms and look forward to his next throw, without anyone being able to guess now where it will land ...

As light can
be NEXT &
less'n'more

Looking for people who share our passion, multiply our ideas and increase our radiance is not our thing. We actually believe in making things happen. That's why the people behind the two brands next and less'n'more have decided to be together.

In the future, despite completely independent product lines, we want to master new challenges together as one team, learn from each other, grow together and shine even brighter together!

As light can
be a perfect
match

lessʾnʾmore is the story of two friends, the two managing directors Kai Steffens and Christian Dinow, which began more than 20 years ago in the cellar of their shared flat.

On an old workbench, Steffens screwed away at his own designs and not only developed his love for beautiful design, but also laid the foundation for his own design label: fascinated by the creative possibilities of LED technology, Steffens and Dinow initially developed lighting tools for industry before achieving a breakthrough in the residential lighting segment in 2008 with their idea for the first focusable LED luminaire, which won them several awards.

Through the merger with next, the product range and team have grown even further and nothing has changed in terms of the task: Together, they bring their light to the people with precision craftsmanship, creativity and openness to design. Their production facilities are still in Germany and that is not a matter of course, but an old saying: Never change a perfect match ...

As light
can be
lasting

We believe in the changeability of taste in terms of colour and form as well as in the constancy of taste in terms of quality. Our luminaires are not subject to short-term trends, but are built for at least a long life.

Therefore, designer and managing director Kai Steffens always follows his idealism and intuition. This results in the guiding principle that our design refrains from diving into the market segment as conformably as possible. However, aesthetics is by no means a secondary consideration, but rather arises almost as if by itself through the way we think about our products:

As quality work that only comes into being when the whole person is involved, when his senses and his mind have a common goal, namely to infect you with our passion.
